As everyone knows this game is free to play or at least that’s how its advertised. In reality you can play free to play and for all those who do don’t feel the need to change. However for those who spend this post will be very helpful to save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. What this requires is patience which i know can be hard for a lot of people. We will go over a few things in here Basic packs, Event packs, Pay to Win

Basic packs: when you log in every time you are immediately greeted with a pack that the developers want you to spend your hard earned money on. Most of the time these packs are garbage. I am sure i will get no friends from them from saying this but if you can avoid it you should never buy a basic pack these include Troop Training, Construction, Research, Biker, Resource, and Hero Bundles. None of these packs are worth it all of these packs you are basically paying for resources which you should never pay for. I will have a sheet at the bottom that shows you the difference in packs.

Event Packs: This is where the patience comes into play. Events don’t happen every day SOF happens every two weeks other events are rarer. If you have the patience then please hold out for these packs and it will potentially save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. The other good thing about only buying during events is that you will then use those speedups to upgrade during events hence having them do double duty for you. There are a few exceptions occasionally they will release special construction packs or research packs or things like that when you see those compare them to the sheet i have below to see if your getting a good deal or not. There are also growth packs you can get from when you start the game these packs are just like event packs and some of the best in the game. The only other exception is after you hit certain HQ levels you get a limited opportunity to get some packs that are geared for that HQ lvl. it is my experience that these packs are worth it but it may be a case by case scenario based upon your needs.

Pay to Win: non spenders will immediately think this means spending in general on a free game. But to me this buying the content you can only get from spending money that free to play players have no way of getting. My personal opinion is that there should be nothing that a free to pay player can’t get with enough time and effort but sadly there is. when you reach end game it becomes very clear that the way to win is in 4 categories. Each of these categories will have their own post to explain them in as much detail as i can provide. They are Chief Gear, Hero Gear, Medals, and Heroes. The end game is where spending can really get going as your moving into tactical gear for your chief and the nice hero gear for your hero’s. There are free ways to get all of the resources you need to upgrade everything (except Chief Gear tactical designs) the process is just incredibly slow. This is where pay to win comes in as you can only really get the designs you need for hero and chief gear by buying them. The only real options to buy them are in the basic packs that offer them. The crates of choice and custom packs also offer the ability of getting these items and are a much better deal but they aren’t offered enough to use them solely especially when you get into making legendary gear. as of this writing the only feasible way to make this gear or get the new heroes is to buy them. whether it is worth it is a personal decision but i can tell you making legendary hero gear and chief gear is super expensive and i suggest looking at those costs before buying a single pack of these. based upon some quick math using solely basic packs 1 piece of legendary chief gear is about $2500 where one piece of legendary hero gear is about $800 this assumes you have zero materials of each. using custom and crate of choice does reduce those prices.

I will be adding some comparisons on packs as soon as I confirm speedup numbers. so this post will get some updates but i hope it is useful for now.
